Scores of Arizona voters had a chance to see presidential candidate Julian Castro at Tempe Center for the Arts. He appeared on a Fox News town hall-style broadcast.

This was Castro’s second visit to the Valley in recent weeks.

Many voters walking into the event — both Republicans and Democrats — mentioned immigration as a top issue.

“I’m here to try to find out more about him, his policies,” said Jose-Enrique Saldana of Tempe. “Especially on immigration.”

Saldana, a recent Northern Arizona University graduate, is also listening for candidate stances on climate change.

Paradise Valley Republican Steve Coffer, meanwhile, wanted to hear what Castro had to say but is generally happy with the president.

“I think Donald Trump is headed in the right direction as far as this issue is concerned,” said Coffer, referring to immigration. “But how he’s going to get support from anybody else is beyond me.”

Castro is the former mayor of San Antonio and former secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He and 19 other Democrats qualified for presidential debates being held in about two weeks.
